About the Competition

The 3rd National Blog Writing Competition 2026 is the flagship blog writing competition organised by CPLAN, NUSRL Ranchi, for its blog The Policy Chronicle. The competition encourages participants to critically examine established legal and policy positions and propose well-reasoned and practical alternatives.

Theme

“Challenging the Settled: Critiquing the Accepted Positions of Law and Policy.”

Participants are expected to go beyond merely describing existing laws, doctrines or institutional practices and critically evaluate whether established positions remain relevant, effective and just in light of changing social, constitutional, political, economic and technological realities.

About CPLAN

The Centre for Policies, Laws and Agenda (CPLAN) was established at NUSRL in 2023. It focuses on research and activities concerning Constitutional Law, Legislative Drafting and Policy Research. Its flagship blog, The Policy Chronicle, promotes accessible and research-driven discussion at the intersection of law, governance and public policy.

Professionals from other fields

Participants can submit individually or through co-authorship, with a maximum of two authors.

Indicative Sub-Themes

Submissions may address issues such as:

Lacunae in legal interpretation

Outdated legal frameworks

Limits of judicial precedent

Regulatory gaps in the digital age

Colonial legacies in contemporary law

Constitutional principles versus outdated statutory provisions

Law and social change

Unaddressed rights and legal protection gaps

Policy implementation gaps

Technological change and legal obsolescence

Judicial innovation and judicial overreach

Law on paper versus law in practice

Legal reform and contemporary challenges

Constitutional morality, social justice and legal change

Prizes

First Prize: ₹5,000 + Memento + Certificate of Merit

Second Prize: ₹3,000 + Memento + Certificate of Merit

Third Prize: ₹2,000 + Memento + Certificate of Merit

Top 15 Entries: Publication on the official CPLAN website

All Participants: Certificate of Participation

The total cash prize pool is ₹10,000.

Single Author: ₹300

Co-authorship: ₹250 per author

Two-Author Team: ₹500

Publication Opportunity

The Top 15 blog entries will receive an opportunity for publication on the official CPLAN website, while all participants will receive certificates of participation.
